Driver, 71, killed during Nevada road race

Philip Bowser, 71, was killed in a crash during the Silver State Classic Challenge on Sunday morning.

The Silver State Classic Challenge is a race held on State Route 318 in Nevada. The road is closed off to the public during the event.

Phillip Bowser rolled his 1997 Porsche 993 in the final corner of the race. The car caught fire during the crash.

Phillip’s daughter Amy Bowser was a passenger during the incident, but was able to escape with minor injuries while Philip was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports that the crash is the fourth fatal incident during the 27-year history of the Silver State Classic Challenge. Bowser was a regular at the event and was competing in the 150 mph class, where the goal is to complete the 90-mile course with an average speed of at least 150 mph.
