Dakar Rally 2015: Kicking up dust - Al-Attiyah continues to extend lead
Mini’s Nasser Al-Attiyah came into stage 4 with a 5 minute 18 second lead over Giniel de Villiers. During Wednesday’s run, from Chilecito, Argentina to Copiapo, Chile, the Qatari competitor was able to pick off his second win of the rally so far, extending his lead to de Villiers to over eight minutes.
Former NASCAR racer Robby Gordon, who was already lagging back in 40th position, suffered from more mechanical woes during Wednesday’s stage. The American is currently down by nearly six hours.

In motorcycles, Joan Barreda came into Wednesday’s stage 4 with a 5 minute 33 second lead over Paulo Goncalves. By the end of the day, he was able to extend his advantage to 12 minutes and 49 seconds over new second-place man, Marc Coma.
Meanwhile, Britain’s Sam Sunderland – who won Sunday’s stage 1 – was forced to pull out of the event after breaking his collarbone in a crash on his KTM.
