After a two-minute penalty in stage 1, X-raid Mini driver Nasser Al-Attiyah redeemed himself in Monday’s stage 2 from Villa Carlos Paz to San Juan as he dominated the 322-mile trail to grab an eight-minute lead going into day 3, on a day when many of his closes rivals encountered issues.

Overheating brakes and other issues pushed former NASCAR racer Robby Gordon down from second place overall from Sunday after he lost four hours getting his Hummer repaired.

Honda rider Joan Barreda took the overall lead in the motorcycle category, with a time of 5 hours, 46 minutes and 6 seconds – six minutes quicker than anyone else through the second stage. This gives him a lead of four and a half minutes over Paulo Goncalves heading into the next stage.
