Christopher Bell cruises to Chili Bowl qualifying night win
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Christopher Bell led every lap on his way to his second career preliminary score in John Christner Trucking Qualifying night at the 30th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals on Thursday.
Bell earned the pole for the A-Main through heat and qualifier points after two attempts at the initial start of the race, Bell quickly ran away from Ohio's Sheldon Haudenschild.
After a restart from a caution on Lap 7, Haudenschild was sent to the back of the field when he struck the cone. Another caution would fly on Lap 10 when second place driver at the time Danny Stratton hit the wall in the third turn.
Bell would rapidly jump out to a two second lead after the restart. The battle would then be in the top five, with C.J. Learly running in the second spot and Jerry Coons Jr. fighting hard for position with Tracy Hines for third.
With the leaders hitting slower traffic late in the race, the caution flew once more for an incident exciting turn two.
Bell would take off again, riding the high line to a 2.360 second lead when he took the checkered flag.
"If you give me one race a year, it's this race," Bell said after his win. "It's something I want to win so badly and I promise, I want to win it more than anyone else in here.
"I'm glad to be in this position and hopefully can carry this momentum into Saturday."
