Red Bull has confirmed that Carlos Sainz Jr. will stay on at Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2017.
While the news is no great surprise, given that the Spaniard had a long term deal with the drinks company, it would appear to put an end to any prospect of Ferrari head-hunting the Spaniard – although as ever, anything can happen in the world of F1 contracts.
Speaking on Twitter, Sainz said: “Very happy to be signed by Toro Rosso for next year! But [it's] time to focus in 2016 season as there is still a lot of unfinished business.”

Dany Kvyat remains well placed to remain in the other seat unless Red Bull's GP2 protégé Pierre Gasly can stake a claim in the coming months.
