Bruce Anstey opens 2015 Isle of Man races with win in Superbikes

New Zealand’s Bruce Anstey has claimed his 10th Isle of Man TT victory after winning the 6-lap RST Superbike race on his 2015 Honda CBR1000RR on Sunday.
John McGuinness rolled off from Douglas shortly after 2 p.m. local time to kick off the racing festivities at the 2015 Isle of Man TT.
The first race of the week was the 6-lap RST Superbike race, a race where each bike has to conform to the official FIM Superbike class specs.
Each bike rolled off in 10-second intervals from one another, with the rider who could finish six laps of the course in the quickest time overall being declared as the winner.
Ian Hutchinson got off to the best start on his Kawasaki while Guy Martin faced ever more bad luck at the circuit, his bike being sidelined before the end of the first lap.
Hutchinson had not competed in the Isle of Man TT since 2012 due to multiple operations on a badly injured leg, which he had sustained in a near career ending motorcycle-racing crash in 2010.
The English rider had a 1.2 second lead over Bruce Anstey at the end of the first 37.73-mile lap, and had extended it to over four seconds after the first round of stops. However, Bruce Anstey began clawing back at Hutchinson’s lead, bringing it down to 0.2 seconds as they came in for their final stops at the end of the fourth lap. Anstey pulled off the quicker stop and had a 2.4 second lead at the start of the fifth lap.
Anstey continued to extend his lead until the end of the sixth and final lap, taking the win by 10.977 seconds over Ian Hutchinson.
