Three fans were injured Sunday night when a sprint car crashed into the stands at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida.
This is the second time this week that this has happened, following a crash for Joey Saldana during the DirtCar Winternationals on Wednesday.
While there were no major injuries reported after Wednesday’s incident, three fans were hospitalized following Sunday night’s crash. All three were transported to Halifax Health Medical Center. Two of them were trauma alerts. One of the fans was airlifted while two were transported by ambulance, according to multiple reports.

Video of the incident emerged on Twitter but was later taken down. The incident reportedly took place when Dale Blaney, Jason Sides and former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Rico Abreau came together exiting Turn 2 during a Sprint Car race during the DIRTcar Nationals. Blaney’s car was sent flipping before clearing the catch fence.
The race was red flagged for 90 minutes but was later restarted.
According to a statement from the DIRTcar Nationals, two of the three individuals remain in hospital while Gary Street of the United Kingdom has been discharged.
Monday morning, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office tweeted an update that one of the fans still hospitalized - a 68-year-old male - was still in critical condition, while the other - a 35-year-old male - was stable. According to Justin Allgaier's Twitter account, the individual listed in stable condition is Kelly Kovski, who is a crew chief at Justin Allgaier Motorsports.
