Ambrose reflects on 'tough weekend' after 16th-place finish Sunday

Marcos Ambrose placed 16th in the rain-shortened Sydney NRMA 500 on Sunday after finishing 20th and 21st in Saturday’s races.
The races took place last weekend at Sydney Olympic Park Street Circuit, where the 38-year-old made his return to the V8 SuperCar series after a nine-year stint in NASCAR.
Nevertheless, the Tasmania native was able to make it to the end of all three races and is looking forward to starting off the 2015 season with a full-time ride with DJR Team Penske.
“Today it all started to click in the Xbox Falcon,” said Ambrose after Sunday’s race. “I am much happier today than where we started and I think there is a small window of light coming through now. I am already looking forward to getting back in the car for the two-day test at Eastern Creek and starting work on this new deal.
“It has been tough weekend, no doubt about it, but we kept the car straight and finished all the laps available in all the races, which is what I wanted to do.
“The weather was a factor too, but it did allow me to experience a lot of different things and I do feel a bit more rounded after not driving these cars for nine years. I’ve got a long way to go and I just hope the team is patient with me and we can build this thing into a winning combination.”
Jamie Whincup, meanwhile, dominated the weekend and the season, having now won six out of the last seven V8 SuperCar championships.
