The Los Angeles Galaxy's troubling habit of surrendering late goals continues to cost them.
That weakness could very well be exposed again when they run into the league's hottest offense.
The Vancouver Whitecaps will try to extend their club-record unbeaten streak to seven matches Saturday night when they visit the Galaxy.
Los Angeles (9-8-3) conceded the match-winner in the 94th minute in a 2-1 defeat at Portland last Saturday, its ninth stoppage-time goal allowed and 15th in the 75th minute or later. The Galaxy have allowed a goal after the 90th minute in each of their last three defeats.
"They'll bounce back," coach Bruce Arena told the team's official website. "I certainly feel for them because they played pretty well in Portland and deserved at least a point there. We got punished for mistakes and that's that."
Vancouver (9-5-5) is more than capable of making the Galaxy pay in similar fashion after going 5-0-1 over their last six matches with 14 goals.
The Whitecaps improved to 7-1-2 with a league-best 23 goals in their last 10 matches after a 3-1 home victory over Chicago on Sunday. Camilo scored two goals six minutes apart midway through the second half, giving him nine in his last seven matches and an MLS-leading 12 overall.
"I try to score every time I can, but I'm very happy today to score," said the Brazilian forward, who scored 12 goals in 32 matches in 2011 as a rookie. "More important for me, our club is getting up in the table."
Camilo has four goals in a three-match goal-scoring streak on the road but has failed to tally in three road games versus the Galaxy.
Kekuta Manneh added the last goal for Vancouver. It was the second goal of the season for the first-year forward, whose playing time has been sporadic since starting the club's season opener.
"It's huge for a young player like me," the 18-year-old Gambian told the team's official website. "It boosts my morale too, gives me confidence - next game I'll try to do the same thing."
The Galaxy will be without forward Landon Donovan for a fourth straight match as he continues to represent the United States in the Gold Cup. Los Angeles will also lose midfielder Omar Gonzalez, but not until after Saturday's match.
Gonzalez was recalled to the national roster Wednesday but wouldn't join the team unless the U.S. defeats El Salvador in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
"I want to stay here and get the win with the Galaxy against Vancouver then leave on a high note," Gonzalez, who has two assists while starting 16 of Los Angeles' 20 games, told the team's official website. "I know that (the U.S.) are going to take care of business and then I'll do whatever I can to help the team win (after)."
Veteran Vancouver defender Andy O'Brien, who has missed the team's last six contests with a hamstring injury, is listed as questionable.
The Whitecaps posted their first win in the all-time series May 11 with a 3-1 victory behind two goals from Russell Teibert. Los Angeles had gone 5-0-1 and outscored Vancouver 16-3 in the previous meetings.
