Matias Laba scored his first career MLS goal in the second minute and Toronto FC held off the New England Revolution 1-0 Sunday.
Laba, a native of Argentina playing in his first MLS season, tip-toed past a trio of New England defenders to score the go-ahead goal.
Laba stole the ball from New England defender Jose Goncalves, turned Revolution defender Stephen McCarthy around atop the right corner of the box and then uncorked a shot that was blocked by New England defender Scott Caldwell.
Laba stayed with the play and nudged the ball past a sliding New England defender Andrew Farrell.
Toronto (4-10-8) won its second straight match after going winless in its previous six (0-3-3).
The victory was just the second for Toronto in New England in 11 trips.
The Revolution (8-8-6) had a two-match win streak snapped, suffered their seventh shutout and fell to 4-4-3 at home this season.
New England had four good scoring chances during the first half against Toronto goalie Joe Bendik, but a Diego Fagundez header went over the crossbar in the 10th minute and Saer Sene misfired on a point-blank shot from the side of the net in the 43th.
Toronto defender Ashtone Morgan knocked a point-blank shot by Fagundez off the goal line in the 13th and defender Richard Eckersley cleared another Fagundez shot off the goal line in the 34th.
Bendik finished with five saves for his third shutout of the season, denying shots by Sene and Fagundez in the second half.
