Sounders-Impact Preview

The Seattle Sounders likely weren't too happy with their results in MLS play before a lengthy break. An injury to their top goal scorer won't help their efforts to get back on track.

With forward David Estrada out for at least two months, the Sounders will attempt to snap a four-game winless skid in league play and spoil the Montreal Impact's debut at the renovated Stade Saputo on Saturday night.

A draw at Chivas USA on May 26 dropped Seattle (7-3-3) to 0-2-2 since its franchise record-tying five consecutive wins. The Sounders came back with a pair of U.S. Open Cup victories, including a 5-0 rout of Cal FC on June 5, but were dealt a blow this week with the news of Estrada's broken left foot.

The forward, who has five goals, suffered the injury during practice and will miss eight to 12 weeks following surgery. Estrada tallied the tying score against Chivas, one of Seattle's three goals over the last four league matches.

Estrada joins a lengthy list of injured Sounders that includes midfielders Steve Zakuani, Alvaro Fernandez and Mauro Rosales.

"It's not great news," coach Sigi Schmid told the team's website. "Hopefully everything will go well in the surgery and he'll be back sooner rather than later. But it definitely means more playing time for some other people. Different people have to step up."

Schmid will try to find those players in time to send Montreal (3-7-3) to a season high-tying third straight loss. The Impact, though, have some extra motivation for this game.

The first-year MLS club is playing its first game at its permanent home after playing the first five at Olympic Stadium.

"We're excited to finally be here. Saturday is going to be awesome," forward Andrew Wenger said. "The stadium looks very good. It's going to be a good surface to play on. It's top-notch. It's right up there with the best stadiums in MLS."

Montreal was 2-1-2 at Olympic Stadium but suffered the lone defeat in its final game, 2-1 to New York on May 19. The Impact then fell 3-2 at Colorado the next weekend, giving up the go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute.

"We have to start to learn from our mistakes," coach Jesse Marsch said. "We are playing well but we shoot ourselves in the foot."

Montreal might have some comfort coming into this game with news that leading goal scorer Bernardo Corradi will remain with the team through the end of this season. The Italian forward has scored four times in 2012.

This is the only match between the clubs this season.
