The New York Red Bulls have signed defender Ibrahim Sekagya (ee-BRA-him seh-KAH-yah).

The Major League Soccer team announced the signing on Thursday, saying the 32-year-old Ugandan will be added to the roster upon receipt of his international transfer certificate.

Sekagya has played mostly as a central defender with Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian Bundesliga from 2007 through the finish of the club's most recent season. He had six goals in 165 games for a team that won three titles during his stay. He began his professional career in Uganda and then went to Argentina in 2001.

Sekagya was a member of the Ugandan National Team and was part of the 2006 and 2010 World Cup qualifying campaigns.
