Major League Soccer will take a two-week break in June during the first round of the World Cup.
There will be three games on the day before the June 12 World Cup opener in Brazil. The season will resume when Vancouver hosts Montreal on June 25, the next-to-last day of group-stage play.
It's similar to the format used for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The MLS season opens March 8 with Seattle hosting Kansas City followed by seven more matches that night. The season ends Oct. 26.
As announced last month, San Jose will host Seattle on Aug. 2 in the opener of Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., the new home of the San Francisco 49ers.
Each of the 20 teams will play a 34-game schedule, and the playoff finalist with the best record will host the MLS championship.
