Los Angeles Galaxy 1-0 Philadelphia Union
Leonardo scored his first career MLS goal and the Los Angeles Galaxy beat Philadelphia 1-0 on Saturday night, handing the Union their first loss.
Leonardo, a Brazilian defender, converted a header in the box off David Beckham's free kick in the 33rd minute. It was the first goal allowed this season by the Union, who have lost all three meetings with Los Angeles.
The Galaxy (2-1-1) made the lead stand despite playing most of the second half a man down following a red card to midfielder Chris Birchall in the 53rd minute. Beckham earned a yellow card in the 90th for delaying play.
Philadelphia (2-1-0) entered having won two straight for the first time since joining the league as an expansion team last year. The Union had a few promising chances late but couldn't score the equalizer.
Landon Donovan was back in the Galaxy lineup after missing last week's 4-1 road loss to Real Salt Lake because of national team duties.
