Sporting Kansas City forward Teal Bunbury will be sidelined four-to-six weeks because of a dislocated right elbow, an injury that could cause him to miss the team's Major League Soccer opener.
Team spokesman Dave Borchardt said the new estimate was made after Bunbury met Friday with team doctors in Kansas City. After the 20-year-old forward was hurt Tuesday during a preseason exhibition in Phoenix, the team said he would be sidelined two-to-four weeks.
Bunbury made his U.S. national team debut in November. He was eligible to play for both the U.S. and Canada. His father, Alex, scored 16 goals for Canada.
Kansas City opens its MLS schedule at Chivas USA on March 19.
