Chris Wondolowski is using every part of his body to continue his impressive scoring run.
Getting a goal against the Philadelphia Union, however, could prove to be elusive.
The Union enter with a franchise-record 332-minute shutout streak Saturday night when they host Wondolowski and the surging San Jose Earthquakes.
Wondolowski has seven goals during a 4-0-1 stretch for San Jose, which is off to its best start at 5-1-1. He is tied with New York's Thierry Henry for the MLS lead with eight.
The striker has shown his versatility by scoring three times on headers, three goals with his right foot and two with his left foot.
"You just have to be aware of where he is in the box at all times," defender Sheanon Williams told the Union's official website. "I think that what he likes to do - he lulls you to sleep and then pops up in a different spot. He finishes extremely well, especially with his head."
Philadelphia (2-3-1) has not allowed a goal in its last three matches. Chicago's Dominic Oduro was the last player to score against the Union in a 1-0 victory for the Fire on March 24.
Wondolowski and San Jose failed to score against Philadelphia last season, losing 1-0 at PPL Park on April 30 before neither team found the back of the net in the July 7 rematch across the country.
He and Simon Dawkins had goals in second-half stoppage time last Saturday as San Jose beat Real Salt Lake 3-1. The Earthquakes are tied with RSL for the Western Conference lead with 16 points, and last weekend's win was coach Frank Yallop's 100th in MLS.
"I love playing for him," Wondolowski told the Earthquakes' official website. "To a man, we all want him as our coach. We believe in him, we believe in what he does and we believe he can make us better. That's why I love playing for him."
While Yallop will be on the sideline Saturday, Philadelphia manager Peter Nowak will not. Nowak has been suspended for two games after leaving the technical area late in last week's 1-0 road win over Chivas USA.
The Union finished that match with nine players after Keon Daniel and Gabriel Farfan were sent off in the final 15 minutes. Both are suspended Saturday.
"It's a tribute to our boys," Nowak said. "Even with two red cards, we didn't give up much. We deserved to win."
Danny Califf will be return Saturday for Philadelphia after the veteran defender missed the last two games with a hamstring injury. He is expected to slot into his regular center back role with Porfirio Lopez an option to replace Farfan at left back.
The Union have yet to score multiple times in a game, and their four goals are tied for the fewest in MLS along with winless Toronto FC and Chivas.
