Rookie Ike Opara scored in his second consecutive match and Chris Wondolowski tallied his first goal of the season as the San Jose Earthquakes beat the New England Revolution 2-0 Saturday.
Opara's goal, headed home off a corner kick from Bobby Convey in the 72nd minute, helped the Earthquakes (2-1-0) get above .500 for the first time since the franchise was re-established in 2008.
Preston Burpo turned aside a couple of close-range headers in the first half for New England (2-2).
Ryan Johnson split two New England defenders with a perfect pass from inside the penalty box. Wondolowski, starting because three San Jose forwards were sidelined by hamstring problems, ran onto the ball and scored from point-blank range.
