Montreal Impact 5, Philadelphia Union 3
Marco Di Vaio scored three goals in the opening 32 minutes to lead the Montreal Impact to a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Union on a wet, chilly Saturday night.
Andrew Wenger and rookie Blake Smith each added their first goals of the season for the Impact (7-2-2), who remained unbeaten at home at 5-0-1.
Antoine Hoppenot, Sebastien Le Toux and Jack McInerney scored for the Union (5-5-3).
FC Dallas 1, San Jose Earthquakes 0
Fabian Castillo scored in the 33rd minute and Raul Fernandez made six saves for his fifth shutout of the season, leading FC Dallas to a 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night.
With Dallas clinging to the one-goal lead, San Jose peppered Fernandez over the final 13 minutes, forcing him to make five saves, but was unable to break through.
Colorado Rapids 2, Chivas USA 0
Colorado Rapids extended its unbeaten streak to five matcheswith a 2-0 victory against Chiva USA.
Atiba Harris scored in the 11th minute and Nathan Sturgis added a late goal for Colorado (5-4-4)
"We always knew that we had to be a good defense,'' coach Oscar Pareja said. "We knew that if we played good defense, we would find ways to score goals."
''Our defense was one of our weaknesses we had last year,'' Pareja said. ''What we put in our players' minds was that we needed to defend better, be solid defensively and the goals would come."
Real Salt Lake 1, Chicago Fire 1
Generating offense has been a chore all season for the Chicago Fire. Twice this season, the team has been dealt three consecutive shutouts against MLS opponents.
The Fire finally found a way to extinguish their latest scoring drought in a tough road environment and can only hope this serves as a turning point in what has thus far been a disappointing 2013 season.
Quincy Amarikwa scored in the 84th minute to counter a goal from Alvaro Saborio in the 78th and Chicago played Real Salt Lake to a 1-1 draw Saturday night.
The Fire (2-7-2) snapped a three-match losing streak in which they did not score a goal and improved to 3-2-3 all-time in Utah. Chicago is the only MLS club with a winning road record against Salt Lake (6-5-3).
New England Revolution 2, Toronto 0
Diego Fagundez extended his scoring streak to three matches, netting his fourth goal of the season to lead the New England Revolution over Toronto FC 2-0 on Saturday night.
The 18-year old Fagundez, who hails from the Boston suburb of Leominster, put the Revolution in front in the 23rd minute, one-timing a right-footed shot off the right wing after taking a long cross from the left side by Chris Tierney.
In stoppage time, Juan Agudelo tipped in a cross along the left goal line off a pass from Saer Sene in the 93rd minute for New England (4-4-4), which is unbeaten in its last three matches at 2-0-1.
Toronto (1-7-4) lost its fifth straight and is winless in its last 10 matches (0-6-4).
DC United 0, Portland Timbers 2
Rodney Wallace scored in the 21st minute and Darlington Nagbe added another goal in the second half, lifting the Portland Timbers to a 2-0 win over D.C. United on Saturday night.
Portland (5-1-7) beat United for the first time in four meetings since the club joined MLS in 2011, extending its club-record unbeaten streak to 11 games. The Timbers remain the only undefeated MLS team on the road this season.
''We're going to remain business-like and not get too high or low,'' said first year Timbers coach Caleb Porter about the unbeaten streak. ''It's not like the guys are doing cartwheels in (the locker room). We're happy but we move on.''
United (1-9-2) is now winless in its last 10 games - matching a club record set in 2002 - and failed to score for the seventh time in 12 games.
