Pável Pardo has completed his move to Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire, the team confirmed on Tuesday.
The former Mexican international has been signed through the end of the 2011 season, and though financial terms were not disclosed, the team confirmed the former América midfielder was not signed to a Designated Player contract.
Pardo moves to Chicago having spent the last two-and-a-half years in the Mexican Primera Division, returning to América after over two seasons with Stuttgart in Germany, where he was part of a title-winning team in 2006-07.
Before this stint in the Bundesliga, Pardo spent eight years with the Aguiles, making 244 league appearances while winning titles in 2002 (Verano) and 2005 (Clausura).
The 35-year-old midfielder, who celebrated his birthday on Tuesday, is expected to slot into his customary defensive role for interim head coach Frank Klopas.
“Pável is a very talented player who can help our team,” Klopas said in a statement released by the team. “Pável’s international credentials and track record as a professional were defining factors in us bringing Pável to the Fire. "
Those international credentials include 148 appearances for the Mexican national team, for whom he scored 11 goals and won Gold Cups in 1998 and 2003.
Pardo started his career with Atlas in 1993, eventually moving to Estudiantes Tecos for one season before making the move to América.
Earlier this month, Pardo and América mutually agreed to terminate his contract with the Mexico City-based club, freeing him to move to MLS.
Chicago currently sits eighth out of nine teams in the MLS's Eastern Conference, recording only two wins in 20 matches.
