SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Utah gymnastics coach Greg Marsden is retiring after 40 seasons at the head of the program.
He made the announcement Monday, days after the Utes placed second in the NCAA championships.
Marsden's wife, Megan Marsden, has held the co-coach title for the last six years and will retain that title. Assistant coach Tom Farden has been promoted to co-coach.
Greg Marsden said he told athletic director Chris Hill of his intentions before the season and the staff had been preparing for this transition. He is the winningest gymnastics coach in NCAA history with a 1,048-208-8 mark and a record-tying 10 national championships. Marsden is a seven-time National Coach of the Year.
Megan Marsden won four titles as a Utah athlete before joining the coaching staff in 1985.
