Zach Johnson doesn't mind another new partner

Zach Johnson is ready to play with another new partner at the Ryder Cup.

At his first Cup appearance in 2006, Johnson played his matches with three different partners: Chad Campbell, Scott Verplank and Stewart Cink.

Cink is the only one of those three on this year's team, so Johnson knows he'll likely be matched with another partner at Celtic Manor. He doesn't mind a bit.

''My game is fairly obvious,'' Johnson said. ''It's not that flashy. It's pretty boring. I prefer boring golf. My point is, I think you could be put with just about anybody and I could perform.''

Four years ago, Johnson halved his match with Campbell, won his match with Verplank but lost in his pairing with Cink. The Europeans went on to a dominating 18 1/2-9 1/2 victory.

''They were deep in talent and played magnificent,'' Johnson recalled. ''As with any Cup team that wins, you have to make a lot of putts, and that year the Europeans made a lot of putts and a lot of putts when they needed to. That's really what it boiled down to.''

Johnson failed to make the Ryder Cup team in 2008. Instead, he watched on television as the Americans regained the cup with 16 1/2-11 1/2 triumph.

''My game was not in proper form at the time,'' he said. ''I felt like I was part of that team indirectly. You are an American. That's your 12 best going out of compete. I wasn't able to go out there and play, but fortunately I am this year.''

Johnson spoke in the media center while a driving rain pounded the roof above, and he was fully aware that the forecast calls for periods of rain the rest of the week.

''We are in delays all the time and playing in it all the time,'' Johnson said. ''I remember a handful of days where it rained from the first tee to the 18th green. ... I hope that's not the case. But I'm a mudder. I don't mind grinding it out.''
