Report: Love next U.S. Ryder Cup captain

Davis Love III will be named captain of the 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup team early next year, GolfChannel.com reported Thursday, citing "a source close to the situation."
Love, 46, served as an assistant to captain Corey Pavin for this year's U.S. Ryder Cup team, which lost to Europe, 14 1/2 to 13 1/2.
He has played in six Ryder Cups and has a 9-12-5 overall record
The PGA of America’s board of directors met late last month to approve the move, Golfchannel.com reported.
When contacted by Golfchannel.com, Love referred all questions to the PGA of America.
“It’s our hope to announce the 2012 Ryder Cup captain in the first quarter sometime next year,” Julius Mason, the PGA’s senior director of communications and media relations, told the website.
In October at the McGladrey Classic, Love was asked about the possibility to captain his own team in 2012 at Medinah (Ill.) Country Club.
“I definitely want to be a captain,” Love said. “If they talk to me about it, I’ll be excited about it.”
On Thursday, the United Kingdom Press Association reported that Jose Maria Olazabal is expected to be named Europe’s captain for the 2012 matches.
