The controversial new 18th green on the West Course at Wentworth is to be redesigned after being heavily criticized by players this week during the first two rounds of the BMW PGA Championship.
Course owner Richard Caring and architect Ernie Els will meet next week after being told that the 539-yard, par-5 with the green protected by a newly built water hazard was both unfair and lacking in drama.
Els wants the green lowered so it gathers shots better and encourages more players to take it on with their second shot. And Caring, who has spent millions of pounds upgrading the course over the last year, has agreed to spend again.
Caring says "the design was my mistake ... and I will rectify it.''
