Prom Meesawat of Thailand and Jason Knutzon of the United States will make their British Open debuts in July after grabbing two of four reserved spots in an international qualifier on Friday.

Tetsuji Hiratsuka of Japan and Lam Chih-bing of Singapore claimed the other two berths from the two-round event at Amata Spring Country Club.

First-round leader Kodai Ichihara of Japan missed a birdie chance on the 18th hole to fall one stroke short of forcing a playoff with Knutzon.

Prom fired a 7-under 65 for a 12-under 132 total to win the tournament by two strokes from Hiratsuka (64).

Prom's only win on the Asian Tour was five years ago, and his struggle with injuries saw him lose his tour card in 2010. But he used his knowledge of the course to his advantage with eight birdies on Friday, offset by only one bogey.

''It's a good comeback for me. It's a good feeling,'' Prom said. ''I played to my strength on this course. I knew which holes to be cautious. To qualify for the oldest major, it's an amazing feeling.''

Hiratsuka carded 30 on his back nine, including four straight birdies, to return to the Open for the first time since 2004, when he tied for 36th at Royal Troon.

Lam earned his third trip to the British Open, and first since 2008, by shooting 67 to finish alone in third on 9 under.

Knutzon, who has played in the U.S. Open, was one stroke back after making 67, and had a nervous wait until Ichihara's attempted birdie putt ran short. He carded a par 72.

The Open is at Royal St. George's from July 14-17.
