FAR HILLS, N.J. — The USGA has confirmed that former US Open champion Michael Campbell has withdrawn from this year's championship.
Campbell won the US Open in 2005, the last time it was held at Pinehurst No. 2.
He wrote on his website this week that he has had some problems with a tendon in his left ankle that has kept him from playing. Campbell last played in Abu Dhabi in January and missed the cut.

Campbell also said he has separated from his wife. He says he does not feel physically or mentally ready to play the BMW PGA Championship next week in England or the US Open, which is to be played June 12-15.
