Mickelson heads to Safeway, still riding high from Ryder Cup

NAPA, Calif. (AP) Still riding an emotional high from the Ryder Cup, Phil Mickelson gets one last chance to win something for himself.
Mickelson is playing his final event of the year at the Safeway Open. It's the first time he's played a domestic PGA Tour event in the fall since the FedEx Cup began in 2007. His management company runs the tournament at Silverado Golf Resort.
Mickelson couldn't keep from gushing about the play of the Americans two weeks ago at Hazeltine. That included his 10-birdie performance in singles, which resulted in a halve with Sergio Garcia.
He says he still has plenty of energy left to try to win for the first time since 2013.
His only disappointment was Tiger Woods' withdrawal from the Safeway Open, where they were paired together.
