Millionaire golfer Rory McIlroy was fined £100 ($165) by a Northern Ireland court for speeding — then asked by the judge if he needed time to pay, The Sun reported Tuesday.

The US Open winner pleaded guilty to driving at 40mph (65kph) in a 30mph (50kph) zone. He was slapped with the fine and three penalty points.

Then district judge Ken Nixon asked McIlroy's solicitor, "Does your client need more time to pay?"

The court erupted in laughter as the lawyer assured the judge that his client did not need the extra time.

Northern Ireland-born McIlroy was visiting Belfast when he was pulled over by cops at the wheel of one of his luxury motors on Jan. 5.

As well as breaking the speed limit he also failed to produce his driving license or insurance documents when asked to by the officers. A fourth charge that he was behind the wheel without a license was dropped.

McIlroy boasts that driving is one of his main hobbies — but it was not revealed in court which upmarket car he was cruising around in when stopped.

The golfer did not turn up for the hearing as he was playing in an American tournament in Akron, Ohio.

McIlroy's latest buy is a gun-grey £163,000 ($270,000) Bentley which he calls his Batmobile.
