Jordan Spieth came up one stroke short of getting into a playoff on Monday at the Open Championship that would have allowed him continue his bid to go 3-for-3 this season in majors. But that doesn't mean the 21-year-old phenom wasn't afforded the opportunity to tangentially enjoy the spoils of victory courtesy of his pal and Open winner Zach Johnson.

The two friends were on the same charter flight back across the pond following Johnson’s playoff triumph Monday when Damon Green, Johnson’s caddie, snapped a photograph of Spieth partaking in a pull and “consuming some adult beverages” out of the Claret Jug.

The Golf Channel also shared an image of Spieth tipping the Jug back.

Spieth’s partaking in an adult beverage out of the Claret Jug follows last year’s winner, Rory McIlroy, enjoying Jagerbombs out of the trophy after his win.

Johnson discussed the enjoyable flight back home to the U.S. during a Tuesday appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show.”

“We actually flew home together last night,” he said, via Eye on Golf. “It was … fun. It was interesting. We had a bunch of guys on the plane. Good friends — our sport may be odd. We try to beat other’s heads in but when it comes down to it we’re going to be the first to applaud and share in the moment.

“He was the guy most people probably wanted to have win and I get that too … He’s a better person, a better kid off the golf course. For him to be there on No. 18 after the playoff. It doesn’t really surprise me because I know his character, but it does speak volumes to how he was raised and certainly how he conducts himself and how he puts the game in perspective.

“He knows he’s not bigger than it. And he’s just a great addition to the great game of golf.”

And that’s why Johnson probably had no problem with Spieth “consuming some adult beverages” out of the Claret Jug.
