Jason Day loses with disastrous double bogey

World No. 1 Jason Day was in a great position to win his third event of the year Sunday - or at least force a playoff with U.S. Open champion Dustin Johnson - but an uncharacteristic meltdown on the 16th hole cost Day dearly.  

Dustin Johnson teed off the 18th hole with a one-shot lead over Day, but clipped a tree on his second shot and carded a bogey five to end his round, which dropped him into a tie for the lead. 

Meanwhile, on the 16th hole, Day hooked his drive into the rough and could only advance his second shot 160 yards to the right rough, but the ball landed directly behind a tree.

Fortunately for Day, he was granted relief as it was ruled that a member of the gallery deliberately stopped his ball from traveling, and it was moved a few yards away from the tree to where it would have stopped - giving him a to salvage the hole. 

Day's approach, however, cost him the tournament. Trying to hit a low slice that bounced up to the green, Day took a very aggressive line and hit his ball in the water. His next shot flew the green, and he ended up taking a double-bogey seven and dropping two strokes behind Johnson.
