Two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen has undergone back surgery to alleviate pain that has hampered him this season. Goosen said the surgery had “gone well,” but did not give any details about his timetable for recovery.

“I am looking forward to returning to the Tour fully fit and, in the meantime, I plan to put my feet up, enjoy watching the golf on TV and relish the opportunity to spend more time with Tracy and my children,” Goosen said in a statement posted Aug. 23 on his website.

Goosen, No. 69 in the Official World Golf Ranking, last competed at the PGA Championship, finishing T-48. His best finish in 2012 was a runner-up finish at the European Tour’s Volvo Golf Champions. He competed primarily on the PGA Tour in 2012, finishing 10th at the U.S. Open and RBC Canadian Open. He hasn’t won since 2009, when he claimed the Africa Open and Transitions Championship.
