Ernie Els ran off three straight birdies early and avoided some
mistakes when the weather did an about-face at Doral for a 6-under
66 that gave him a one-shot lead in the CA Championship.
Robert Allenby made an ace on the 13th hole and was among the
leaders until he three-putted his final hole just before the second
round was suspended because of thunderstorms. Allenby had to settle
for a 67.
Els, who won on the Blue Monster in 2002, was at 10-under
134.
Charl Schwartzel, the first-round leader at this World Golf
Championship, was just over the 18th green in two when play was
halted. He was at 7 under, along with Bob Hope Classic winner Bill
Haas, who had a 66.
