CARMEL, Ind. (AP) U.S. Open champion Dustin Johnson made two eagles and set the course record at Crooked Stick with a 9-under 63 on Friday to share the 36- hole lead with Roberto Castro in the BMW Championship.

Johnson didn't even realize he set the record until Crooked Stick golf director Tony Pancake told him on the way to the clubhouse.

All that mattered was seeing putts go in with his new putter, and taking a big step toward a third victory. That could go a long way toward winning PGA Tour player of the year.

Castro, who shot another 65 in rain-softened conditions, is No. 53 in the FedEx Cup. He is trying to get into the top 30 to advance to the Tour Championship at East Lake.
