Dougherty shoots 72, retains lead

Nick Dougherty shot a 1-over 72 in the European Masters second round to retain his lead at 7 under, and ensure he will make his first cut of the year.

Dougherty has not played at the weekend nor earned any prize money in 21 straight European Tour events stretching back to the final event of last season.

The Englishman shared the clubhouse lead with compatriot Danny Willett (64).

Two more Englishmen, Gary Boyd and Simon Dyson, were on 7 under out on the course.

U.S. Open winner Rory McIlroy and world No. 5 Martin Kaymer resume on 6 under when they play in the afternoon.

World No. 2 Lee Westwood was on 5 under after 15 holes of his round.
