Brad Dalke shoots 62 in Junior PGA Championship

BRYAN, Texas (AP) Brad Dalke shot a tournament-record 9-under 62 in hot conditions Tuesday to take the boys' lead in the Junior PGA Championship, and Yujeong Son remained on top in the girls' division.
The 17-year-old Dalke, from Norman, Oklahoma, had a tournament-record 12-under 130 total at Miramont Country Club to take a six-stroke lead.
''I was trying to keep 59 out of my mind on the back nine,'' Dalke said.
Dalke broke the tournament record of 63 set by Chris Couch in 1990 and matched by Pat Perez in 1993, and topped the tournament record of 63 set by John Peterson in a 2012 U.S. Open qualifier. Dalke also broke the tournament 36-hole mark of 133 set by Joe Monte in 2005 and matched by Chris DeForest in 2007.
Dalke made nine birdies in his bogey-free round. He birdied the first three holes and made the turn at 6 under, added three birdies and parred the final three holes.
Kaiwen Liu of San Diego was second after a 67.
U.S. Junior Amateur champion Philip Barbaree of Shreveport, Louisiana, the first-round leader, had a 71 to drop to third at 5 under.
The 14-year-old Son, from Norman, Oklahoma, followed her opening 64 with a 73 to finish at 5 under. Elizabeth Wang of San Marino, California, was a stroke back after a 70.
''I wasn't that good,'' Son said. ''But, I stuck in there and made it to the end. I had three three-putts today, which really busted my round.''
