The PGA of Australia has joined the PGA Tour in adopting a new rule prohibiting the anchored putting stroke for all tournaments it sanctions from Jan. 1, 2016.
In May, golf's two governing bodies — the Royal & Ancient Golf Club and the US Golf Association — adopted Rule 14-1b, which prohibits players from anchoring a club against their bodies beginning in 2016.
Australian Adam Scott used an anchored putter to win this year's Masters, as have three others in the past seven majors.
The Australian tour said Thursday that it wanted to ''avoid a situation in which professionals would have to compete under different conditions on different international tours.''
PGA of Australia chief executive Brian Thorburn added that players will ''now have clarity and time to adapt.''
