Thomas Aiken took a 1-shot lead at a somber second round of the Spanish Open that was marked by news of golf great Seve Ballesteros' worsening health on Friday.
Ballesteros died early Saturday morning in Pedrena, Spain.
The South African player had a 4-under 68 to move ahead of Spain's Pablo Larrazabal (70). Alvaro Velasco (70), Romain Wattel (71), Anthony Wall (70) and first-round leader Scott Jamieson (71) trailed Aiken by two shots.
Players were on the El Prat course when hearing the news that five-time major champion's condition had severely deteriorated more than two years after he had surgery to remove a cancerous brain tumor.

Ryder Cup partners Jose Maria Olazabal and Miguel Angel Jimenez were moved to tears as they left the course.
