SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) Ben King out-sprinted Evan Huffman and won Stage 2 of the Tour of California on Monday while assuming the overall lead.
King and Huffman spent most of the day with Will Barta before dropping the 20-year-old with about 5 miles to go. Their lead at that point dipped to about 2 minutes, but King and Huffman ended up holding off the fast-finishing peloton by 8 seconds at the finish.
Alexander Kristoff beat Stage 1 winner Peter Sagan in the sprint for third.
The overall standings likely will take shape Tuesday with Stage 3, a 104-mile ride from Thousand Oaks toward Santa Barbara that will finish with the challenging climb up Gibraltar Road.
