ALHAURIN DE LA TORRE, Spain (AP) Chris Froome of Sky held off Alberto Contador to win the Andalucia Vuelta on Sunday, to mark the start of the season with a victory over one of his direct rivals for the upcoming grand tours.
Froome finished the five-day race in southern Spain two seconds ahead of his fellow Tour de France winner.
Contador's Movistar teammate Juanjo Lobato won the final stage, a 170-kilometer (105-mile) ride from Montilla to Alhaurin de la Torre.
Froome protected his lead that he had earned in the fourth stage on Saturday.
