Chris Smith returned two kickoffs for long touchdowns, but it was Philippe Panico's second 36-yard field goal that made the difference as Yale defeated Brown 27-24 in an Ivy League game Saturday.

Both of Smith's scoring returns occurred in the second quarter, within 2 1/2 minutes of each other on the game clock. The first was for 79 yards, the second for 83. Both gave Yale (6-2, 4-1) double-digit leads, and Brown - trailing from Panico's first 36-yard field goal nearly five minutes into the game - spent most of the game playing catch-up.

The Bears (4-4, 3-2) tied the score at 24 on Zachary Tronti's 15-yard touchdown run with 5:36 left in the third quarter. But Panico provided the only points of the fourth quarter on what turned out to be the game-winning field goal with 9:30 left in the game.

Alex Thomas rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs.
