Wisconsin Football: Badgers Roll Through The Boilermakers

Badgers Continue on with Traditional Wisconsin Football in West Lafayette

Wisconsin Football continued to roll through the Big Ten West as the Badgers took to the field in West Lafayette. The Badgers started slowly in the first as the Purdue defense drove down the field, but Wisconsin bent but didn’t break as they held Purdue to a field goal early in the first. The Badgers offense struggled in the first as they were not able to get on the board until the second quarter.

Senior quarterback Bart Houston came into revive the stagnant Wisconsin offense as he came in to lead a 4 minute, 87 yard drive before Alec Ingold plunged in for a 1 yard score to give the Badgers a 7-3 lead. Soon after, the game took a turn in Wisconsin’s favor and finally broke open as linebacker TJ grabbed an interception from close range and returned in for a 17 yard touchdown to up the lead to 14-3. Purdue was forced to punt on the ensuing drive, and the Badgers again drove down the field before Bradrick Shaw took a 7 yard run for a touchdown.

The following possession Purdue again turned the ball over as linebacker TJ Edwards swatted a ball which then fell into his arms in Wisconsin territory. On the following play, Houston hit Alec Ingold for a 19 yard touchdown pass. Purdue then retained possession and threw a 75 yard touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage to put the score at 28-10. As the first half crept to a close, the Badgers put together one more score as they pounded on the ground and capped it off with a 33 yard touchdown run by Freshman Bradrick Shaw to put the Badgers up 35-10 to end the half.

It was much of the same in the second half as Purdue was only able to put up a field goal in the third, while the Badgers were able to hook up for an additional score as another lengthy drive was capped off by a 25 yard touchdown strike from Alex Hornibrook to Jazz Peavy for the score. The Badgers then put together an 8 minute drive heading into the fourth quarter before being capped off by a Corey Clement 6 yard touchdown run. Purdue later put together a final touchdown to put the game at 49-20.

Clement and Shaw were the stars of the show for Wisconsin, but Houston was an underlying story as he seemed to get the offense going in the second. Clement finished the game with 27 carries for 112 yards and a score, while Shaw finished with 68 yards and two scores. Houston was effective in his passing as he went 5/6 for 102 yards and a score, while Hornibrook went 7/9 for 89 yards and a score as well.

The Badgers played the standard Wisconsin Football brand, as the defense remained stout and the ground game continued to roll. The Badgers can clinch a Big Ten Title Birth next week with a victory over Minnesota next week at Camp Randall.
