The offseason is the perfect time for debate, and with that in mind, Gordon Monson of the Salt Lake Tribune recently asked the question: who is the best BYU football player from 2000-2015.

Monson, who fully acknowledged that the debate is subjective and not an exact science, threw out names like Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta, Detroit Lions defensive end Ziggy Ansah and linebacker Kyle Van Noy.

Monson argued that all three players have been solid, but the sample size is a little small. It was with that in mind that he proposed that defensive end Brett Keisel is the Cougars top player of that past 15 years.

Keisel’s case is a strong one. Keisel was a seventh round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2002 and went on to win two Super Bowls and become an pro-bowl selection in 2010.

For his career, Kiesel has tallied 409 tackles and 30 sacks.
