Western Carolina has no trouble with Furman in 48-10 win

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) Troy Mitchell threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns and added 55 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to help lead Western Carolina to a 48-10 win over Furman on Saturday.

Western Carolina has won five of six after starting the season 1-2. Furman has lost three of four following a three game winning streak last month.

Detrez Newsome ran for 184 yards and Steffon Hill caught ten passes for 130 yards including a 36-yard touchdown for the Catamounts (6-3, 4-2 Southern Conference). Hill also had a rushing touchdown.

Western Carolina opened the game on a 28-0 scoring run, capped off by Mitchell's TD pass to Hill, and led 31-3 at halftime.

Furman (4-5, 2-3) scored its only touchdown on the final play of the third quarter, a 1-yard run by Kealand Dirks.

P.J. Blazejowski and Reese Hannon combined for 240 yards passing for Furman.
