The results of X-rays conducted on Washington linebacker John Timu are normal, but he is expected to stay overnight at Harborview Medical Center.

Timu was placed on a stretcher and taken off the field in an ambulance late in the third quarter.

''It was hard seeing him on the ground with the stretcher,'' said sophomore linebacker Garrett Gilliland. ''We were just watching him and praying for him, but we knew he was going to be all right because he's a tough kid.''

Timu was involved making a tackle on California running back Isi Sofele with 1:25 left in the third quarter. Timu remained down on the field and was moving his legs back and forth in pain after apparently taking a knee to the head during the course of the play. The training staff summoned the rest of the medical staff and paramedics onto the field.

''He was moving all of his limbs on the field, but it was definitely precautionary with his neck,'' said Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian. ''Obviously, you have to take those things as seriously as you can.''
