Walk-on JUCO transfer Mahoney in line to start for Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) Walk-on Zack Mahoney is in line to start at quarterback for Syracuse on Saturday against No. 8 LSU.
Orange offensive coordinator Tim Lester said Tuesday night that Mahoney, a junior college transfer who enrolled in January and had been the scout team quarterback as recently as last week, was taking most of the first-team reps in practice ahead of Austin Wilson.
Lester said Mahoney is ''the guy that's shown the most'' and can execute all facets of the offense.
If Mahoney gets the nod, he'll be the third player to start at quarterback for Syracuse (3-0) this season. Terrel Hunt was lost for the season with an Achilles tendon injury in the opener against Rhode Island. Freshman Eric Dungey, who started the past two games, was knocked out of last week's win over Central Michigan after a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit and is doubtful for LSU.
