Former Wake Forest cornerback Kevin Johnson graduated to the next level Thursday night when the Houston Texans selected him with the No. 16 overall pick in the NFL draft.

Johnson, who had 35 pass breakups during his Demon Deacons career, was the second corner taken in the draft behind Michigan State’s Trae Waynes, who was chosen No. 11 overall by the Minnesota Vikings.

"I was just sitting in the green room," Johnson said in a conference call Thursday night. "I think it was pick 15 up on the screen and the Houston Texans called me and told me they were going to draft me. I was just overwhelmed with joy and extremely excited."
