Vanderbilt QB Patton Robinette quitting football, citing injuries

Influenced by injuries, Vanderbilt QB Patton Robinette is calling it a career despite having two years of eligibility left.

Robinette, who missed six games because of a knee injury and concussion in 2014, said the move will allow him to enter Vanderbilt's School of Medicine, where he will start studying orthopedics this summer.

"This has been a very difficult decision to make," Robinette said in a statement released Friday. "This team means the world to me and I love playing football more than anything. It's been tough coming to a decision that is right for my family and I, and protects my health and future."

Robinette injured his knee in the 2014 season-opener vs. Temple, then was unable to play the following week vs. Ole Miss. Robinette sustained a concussion later in the year vs. South Carolina, an injury that forced him to miss five more games.

In all, Robinette passed for 454 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in 2014.
