CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) North Carolina has lost sophomore tailback Khris Francis to a season-ending knee injury.

The school says Francis tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments as well as the meniscus in his right knee while returning a kickoff during the second quarter of Saturday's win against Pittsburgh.

Francis will need surgery, which hasn't been scheduled yet.

Francis was a reserve in a crowded backfield this season, playing behind T.J. Logan, Elijah Hood and Romar Morris.
