Connecticut football coach Randy Edsall has hired two new assistants to work with the team's defensive backs and tight ends.

Darrell Perkins, who served for the past two seasons as the defensive backs coach at Louisiana-Monroe, was hired Thursday to the same position in Storrs. He replaces Scott Lakatos, who took a similar position at Georgia.

Perkins, a former running back at Wyoming, also has coached at Northern Colorado, Charleston Southern and Ferris State.

Tight ends coach Dave McMichael also left UConn last month for the same job at West Virginia. He's being replaced by UConn alum Jonathan Wholley.

Wholley, who also earned his master's degree at UConn, was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator last year at Fordham.
