G.J. Kinne rushed for 190 yards and a touchdown and threw for 154 yards and two more TDs as Tulsa held on for a 28-25 win over Houston on Saturday night.
Kinne ran it in from a yard out to give the Golden Hurricane (7-3, 5-2 C-USA) a 28-10 lead with 4:11 left in the third, but Houston (5-5, 3-3 C-USA) cut the lead to 28-25 with two David Piland touchdown passes.
Piland was picked off by Marco Nelson with 5:39 left, and Tulsa ran out the clock. It was Piland's fifth interception of the game.
Piland finished 22 of 36 passing for 291 yards and three touchdowns while Kierrie Johnson caught five passes for 141 yards and a touchdown.
Nelson finished with three interceptions, and Curnelius Arnick had two picks for Tulsa.
Alex Singleton scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with 11:00 remaining in the first quarter to give the Golden Hurricane a 7-0 lead.
Houston tied it with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Piland to Justin Johnson with 13:17 remaining in the second quarter.
Tulsa took the lead back with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Kinne to Ricky Johnson with 5:09 left in the first half to make it 14-7.
Piland threw his fourth interception of the first half to Arnick, who returned it to the Houston 10. The Golden Hurricane extended its lead to 21-7 with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Kinne to Clay Sears with 3:54 left in the second.
Matt Hogan connected on a 32-yard field goal to cut the lead to 21-10 less than four minutes into the second half.
After Kinne's touchdown run, Houston answered with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Piland to James Cleveland two minutes later to cut the lead to 11.
After Tulsa couldn't convert a 4th and 4 from the Houston 34, Piland found Kierrie Johnson for a 66-yard touchdown pass, and Piland connected with Patrick Edwards to close the gap to 28-25 with 12:16 remaining in the game.
