Texas Longhorns freshman quarterback Shane Buechele wasn't even supposed to have been born, apparently. He wasn't quite an accidental pregnancy in the traditional sense but the result of a conception that occurred after his father had gotten a vasectomy.

"He's the oops baby who turned out to be the prodigy," Jordan Buechele, one Shane's two sisters, joked to the Dallas Morning News.

On Sunday, Buechele started for Texas against No. 10-ranked Notre Dame, serving as the predominant passer in Charlie Strong's two-QB system that featured senior Tyrone Swoopes as a ballcarrier. Buechele completed 16 of 26 pass attempt for 280 yards, two touchdowns and threw one interception in the 50-47 double overtime victory.

Then on Monday, Buechele talked about his unusual birth story, which he only learned about two years ago.

"I don't know what you'd call that," Buechele said. "I'm just glad to be here. I found out when my dad was [managing minor league baseball]. It's a long story. I just remember hearing about what happened."

Jimmy Fallon even joked about it on Tuesday's "The Tonight Show."

Best of all for Texas: The team is ranked in the AP Top 25 for the first time under head coach Charlie Strong, vaulting from unranked to No. 11 overall as Notre Dame fell to 18.
